Quick Music Geekly Note for a Sunday Night

I don't get Lou Reed.

By "don't get" I mean I don't understand what the big deal is about him and why he's considered so influential when the majority of folk have only ever heard one song. With a lot of crusty, bleak, grim artists (see Pink Floyd), maybe I don't like their stuff but I get it, I fathom their influence; however, with Reed, no. Just no.

I'd rather listen to Skid Row's "I Remember You" and be called a musical cretin than sit through just one more time of "Walk on the Wild Side." Ugh. Sebastian Bach up.

If you do get him, please explain.

Maybe Lou Reed is OK or maybe he is too queer. Same with Iggy Pop. Some of their music is OK and I'm not an expert, but maybe LOLA's walk on the wild side is just too weird for me. Starbuck's doesn't do it for me either.

I don't get him, either. You know who else? Neil Young.

Sevnetus: I don't like Iggy either.

LBB: But see, I do get Neil Young, although I have to be in a certain mood to tolerate him.

I think we're not meant to get him. I think it's his plan...artsy people, LOL. I guess he was there in beginnings of glam rock and punk and even sort of industrial, he made a whole album of just noises (and I'm not going to get into how I have a WAV file of one track split over 5 floppies since the '90s).

Being he's a local boy, I probably was exposed to more of his songs than just that one with, "doo de doo de doo doo doo...."

Okay, no, you know what, I probably shouldn't publicly admit that I giggled at that song when I first heard it, because he's so deadpan and I was so young, and giggling's what I did.

But back to what burned Lou Reed into my mind forever. There was a local video station (U68 *moment of silence*) that played his video for No Money Down a lot, and I found it on YouTube just to show you, because it won't make him any more gettable, but if you haven't seen it, you need to.

At about 1:39, it gets real interesting. That's all I'm sayin'.
