Shredding, Slamming Fun

Yeah, I'm closer to 40 than 14, but that doesn't mean I can't pretend to be in that band I always wanted to be in.
And no, I can't play the guitar for real, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the tar out of this game. In fact, that's the whole POINT.
The second version of this Playstation 2 diversion, called Guitar Hero as you can see here, just came out, but I'm too busy woodshedding on a borrowed version of the first one to care about that yet. At first, I sucked so thoroughly the game kicked me out of the song and the crowd booed. Yet now, I can successfully hit 80-96% of the notes on average of tunes ranging from Boston's "More Than A Feeling" to Audioslave's "Cochise."
The cool thing is, songs you don't even like much and dismiss as crap, you get new respect for when you try to play them. You also learn how Nikki Sixx must have felt when his fingers and forearms ached from the amount of rockin' he was doing, but his paycheck at the end of the night was only $100. (Yep, I need a new manager.)
I suppose Slash isn't losing sleep over my impending guitar goddesshood, but it's still a hella lot of fun.

Do you end up able to play the guitar outside the game? I'm thinking brain surgery, or perhaps more technically difficult: Jesus miracles. First you become obsessed by a computer game, then six month's down the line you are feeding Five Thousand poor folk of South London on just Seven Battered Cod and five portions of chips. Or 85% of that.

I don't know, Helga, because I don't own a guitar and I've never really tried. I'd love to come to London just to TRY doing that.

That's pretty cool. I have a couple of friends who sporadically try to teach themselves how to play guitar. I wonder if they know about this game...

Let me know when you'll be appearing in concert!

The cool thing is, NH, that my friends are about to get Guitar Hero Two. Woo hoo!!! ;)

I suppose I'll eventually be one of those people, Violet, but for now, this will do.

Me too, LBB. This is the next best thing, I promise.

This needs to come out for Xbox-360, like, yesterday.

So...jealous...

I hope it does, Amanda. I just played "Crazy on You" and it is not for sissies. :)

The only thing Slash is losing sleep over is whether or not he has to work the late shift at the local grocery store next weekend. ;)

Oh, now see, Steve, you shouldn't speak ill of the Guitar Gods like that. You might wake up with a sudden inability to get the opening riff of "Sweet Child 'O Mine" out of your head.

UPDATE! Two years later, I have learned that it was not John but Ringo that uttered that phrase.
